What is Captain

Captain is an AI agent that works on your OceanResume profile with you. You tell it in a chat what you want, and it reads the profile, makes the changes and tells you what it changed.

Type a request in your own words. An empty chat offers three to start from:

  • What’s missing from my profile?
  • Tighten up my summary
  • Add a skill

Captain can read your sections and entries, add and rewrite entries, add, rename, reorder, show, hide and remove sections, and publish the profile. The full list is on What Captain can change.

While it works, the chat shows a line such as “Looked at your profile · Updated 3 entries”. Select it to see every step.

Everything Captain changes goes into your draft. Your public page stays as it is until the profile is published, by you or by Captain when you ask for it. See Publish and go live in the OceanResume docs.

Captain asks before it removes a section, deletes an entry or publishes. See Confirmations.

A conversation is always about one profile. Captain cannot read or change your other profiles from that chat.

Each profile has one ongoing conversation with Captain. It is the same conversation wherever you open it, so you can start in the dashboard and carry on in the Captain app. To start over, select Clear conversation. Captain then forgets everything said there, including text read from your files. Your profile is not changed.

Each message Captain answers uses Captain credits. Your plan comes with a monthly allowance. See Monthly credits.

On a plan that includes Bring Your Own Model, you can connect your own AI model instead. Messages answered by your model use no credits. See Requirements.

Captain sends your messages and the relevant profile content to an AI model provider to write its replies, and it can change your profile when you ask it to. Before your first message, Captain shows a Before you start step in place of the message box:

  1. Open the linked documents and read them. They open in a new tab.
  2. Tick I agree to the Captain terms.
  3. Select Agree and continue.

If you select Not now, nothing is sent and nothing is changed. A message you had typed stays in the message box, and it is not sent until you send it yourself after agreeing.

When the terms change, Captain shows Captain’s terms have changed with Review and Later. If the notice names a date, agree by then to keep using Captain.

The published terms are on the InteOcean legal pages. For what leaves your account, see What is sent to the model.
