What is sent to the model
Captain sends your messages and the relevant profile content to an AI model provider to write its replies. This page lists what is sent, what Captain stores and how to delete it.
Nothing is read, sent or changed before you agree to the Captain terms. The terms are published on the InteOcean legal pages.
What is sent with each message
Section titled “What is sent with each message”- Your message.
- The profile the chat is about. Captain sends an outline of the profile’s sections and entries with each message. When it needs the detail of a section, it reads that section and sends it too.
- The conversation so far. The most recent messages and replies are sent as they are. Older ones are sent as a short summary that Captain writes.
- Text from attached documents. For a PDF, Word or text file, Captain sends the text it read from the file, not the file. That text stays in the conversation, so it is sent again with later messages while the conversation lasts.
- Attached images. An image is sent for that one message only. Captain re-saves it first, which removes hidden details such as the location and camera.
Content from your other profiles is not sent. A chat can only reach the one profile it is about.
Captain treats profile text and attached documents as content to work on, never as instructions to follow.
Who receives it
Section titled “Who receives it”- In Credits mode, the content goes to the AI model provider Captain uses.
- With your own model, it goes to the endpoint you entered, under your provider’s terms. See Limits and what is sent.
What Captain stores
Section titled “What Captain stores”For each message, Captain keeps:
- Your message and Captain’s reply. This is the conversation you see when you reopen the chat.
- For each attachment: its name, type and size, and a fingerprint of the file. For documents and text files it also keeps the text it read, up to a fixed length.
- Which actions ran, whether each one worked and how long it took. The values Captain wrote are not kept in this record; they are in your profile.
- A copy of a section as it was before Captain changed it.
- Your answers to confirmations.
- How much the model read and wrote, and the credits charged.
Captain does not store the attached files themselves, and keeps no image content at all. Files are read for the message and then discarded.
Delete it
Section titled “Delete it”Select Clear conversation in a chat. Captain forgets everything said there, including text read from your files. Your profile is not changed.
Clearing removes that profile’s conversation and its stored messages. It also removes them from your credit history. Do this for each profile whose conversation you want gone.
Changes Captain made to your profile are part of the profile. Edit or remove them in the dashboard, or ask Captain.
Your own model’s key
Section titled “Your own model’s key”If you connect your own model, Captain stores your API key encrypted. It is used only for your Captain messages and is never shown again. Remove my model deletes it. See Set it up.
